Trimming cases

I bought some Lee case trimmers (ones where you can use your cordless drill to turn the case and save some wear and tear on your fingers). Could not find them for my 257roy. Guy at Sportman's said to use the 25-06 trimmer with a mangnum holder. Said to put a shotgun BB in the bottom to get the length correct.

I forgot to use a BB and inadvertently trimmed the 8 257roy cases to 25-06 length. I did not notice anything with the cases after I shot them. What do you guys think the downside to trimming a case shorter than specs would be?

the lee case trimmers should be spec. Why did he tell you to do this?

Edited to make sense - trimmed 257roy cases to 25-06 specs. About .055 inches shorter than specs.
