Since my lease is so small, but it sits among a ton of other ground I don't have permission to hunt. I am leaning towards trapping instead of calling and shooting the predators. The dogs and bobcats are thick as thieves in there, but I really want them thinned out more than the thrill of calling them in.

I have started doing some research and it seems a 550 trap is whats needed for these applications.

I have a good idea of where Im going to be setting them up, bait with fresh meats, use rubber gloves when handling the traps to minimize scent, and all traps must have a tag of ownership.

My bigger problem is checking traps. My place is 2 hours away, and I cant check them during the week days.

Is this ethical, legal to wait 6-7 days between checking?
I cant find any information on this.

I am also considering snares. Thoughts?

Last but not least, in 13 years I have only seen 4 pet dogs. It would bother me to catch one in a trap, but what do you do about that?

IMO ..if you cant check them every day I would not set them.. I been trapping for 30 plus years on and off.. dont think in that time I have ever went a day with out checking my traps.. no matter how bad you hate a coyote.. you dont want to leave them in a trap for 6-7 days..

Thanks, I didn't have a paper copy, but scoured the online version and couldn't find that.

The regulations on the inspecting traps at least every 36 hours are found in TCA 70-4-120.

Other trapping regulations are found in the Manner and Means Proclamation 13-08.

There is a link to both statutes and Proclamations at the top of the TWRA section under TWRA Rules and Regulations.
