Like to learn more about that setup.
When you use rebar, have you ever had a yote pull it out? What size and length do you use?
They will jerk a single rebar stake right out of the ground, it's best the get a double stake swivel.. drive them into the ground in a X pattern and he'll be there awaiting you in the morning..

Or do away with the rebar and use wolf fang disposable and not worry at all. And a whole lot less hassle to carry
Will this do? I hope so cause it's in the ground. I've gott'em on camera at one certain place 3 outta 4 nights and thought I better strike while the irons hot. I beat a flange on top of the washers, I don't think they are coming off without bending the washers, folding them which'll be tough for the chain to do. I put them in in a X. They are 24" long each.

It sure beats a single stake, but really needs the washers welded, and a swivel..
I use wolf fangs, but I can pull them up with the 4 wheeler or tractor when I am done.

Yep. They also make pullers or can be made fairly easy. Leverage is your friend.
Trail cam showed i had a coyote move by a couple of my sets around 1:15 am this morning. Hoped to find it caught, but instead found this. Not quite sure if it was a pull out or the coyote pulled something from the trap. No identifiable fur that I could find.
If I was a betting man I'd say that's a raccoon!
It's amazing they'll chew their own foot off to get out of there. I had one do that this year. Was caught for about 4 hours and it chewed enough of it's leg to get out.
What would be the #1 mistake made when trapping yotes?
coons don't chew above the jaws only below where they don't have circulation. So they are not chewing out. They twist out. This is completely preventable with proper equipment and sets. You need laminated trap jaws that don't caught off circulation. Proper swiveling in the chain and check early.
Not putting your trap in the right place.. lol.. just kidding..
Probably not bedding it properly..
Having it to close to the hole , if your setting a dirt hole set..
trying to crowd it into your set..

Coyotes steal way mor coons than a twist or chew out and laminated jaws will not stop a chew out. Checking earlier will save more problems than anything
And proper pan tension will stop a lot of coons in traps ment for coyotes

Thank you for the suggestion, but raccoons are not my target, coyotes are.
A coyote was on my cell cam less than 100 yards away just a few minutes after that pic. I think deer triggered the camera where the coon was caught. Very possible that coyote got the coon but never triggered the camera.

Those suggestions apply to coyote x 2. If you don't hold a coon you won't hold a yote. If a yote kills a coon in a trap, which in my experience is rare, it's not going to eat it, it's just going to leave it there.

I had 2 coons do this to me in January
Heartbreaking
I definitely don't want an animal out there in the woods, bleeding or hurt. I'd rather have him so that really hurts to see that from both sides you know obviously it's a trap. Rip sucks but then for the animal.
