My brother shot a good sized cat back in the 70s and decided to tan the hide himself. For 6 weeks he was doing this and doing that all in the process he was following. He had one more step to go but needed something he didn't have. Leaving the skin on a board on his back porch, he drove into town to pick up what he needed. When he got home, the neighbor's beagles had gotten out, snatched his skin and tore it to shreds.

Yeah, when you put the work in for putting up fur and go to the sale, you get your feelings hurt most of the time. lol a few years ago we watched a guy sell probably 100 coons for 50 cents each. No way I'm skinning and stretching a coon for .50-$2 or a coyote for $5-15. They don't want them.

Honestly, I skin and stretch them because of the heritage I guess..
 
I'm jealous of all of you who can land trap.. theres so many freaking dogs around here.. they coyotes would have to take a number to get in a trap..

This is my 3rd year. It's addicting lol. I started out with DP's and thought I was good with them. Then shortly after wanted to go after bobcats and coyotes. I get mad when I get a raccoon or possum in a foothold but like you said ridding any of them is helping the turkeys.

When they get in your water sets you will be even madder. You have to put the waders on and then wrestle traps in the water that are stronger than land traps. I'm at battle with otters and beavers and the coons keep getting in my sets. I had to put out dp's and caught one last night.
