Is it a must to have a big, nice, fast boat? I just bought a 17' johnboat decked out for fishing with two livewells, fish finder, trolling motor, and 75 hp Evinrude...but I have never fished in a tournament.

Will people give you heck because you ain't got a "bass boat"?

Just wondering, thought about doing a few?

What websites could I use to find tourneys in the Huntsville area?

I ain't ever caught a fish doing 60 mph. I kind of felt the same way and I have a 115. Now I could care less as long as it gets me out on the water.

Live wells are in great shape, boat takes on waves great from other boats and is very stable.

Don't think they could say much if I out fish me though haha.

Have not got my boat done yet but its an 88 bumble bee with a 90 horse on it. I won't hesitate one bit to enter a tournament with it the guys I fish with all have nice new boats with big motors but as long as you have a good live well it don't matter how fast you can go if you know were the fish are at. Matter of fact there were a couple of boys fished the tx Thursday night in a john boat.

I agree with easy45, and will add one thing, make sure you have a rig that will keep fish alive. It doesn't matter how big your boat or motor is, but what does matter is having a livewell/aeriation system that will keep fish alive when it gets hot. Most wildcat tournaments that I fish will not let you weigh dead fish so this is very important.

Fished a tournament yesterday afternoon that had at least 3 aluminum boats with smaller motors.

Honestly, you don't even have to have a "big" motor on your boat. All you need is a boat that will float, working live well and good trolling motor. Heck I guess you could row if you don't have a trolling motor.

Exactly, its all about catching fish, not the boat your in! Ive won tournaments from Jon boats and ive been beat by people in Jon boats!!

I bet after you win a tournament or two, those big fast boats will somehow lose speed and follow you right to where you are catching them!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally like fishing tournaments in aluminum boats. They sink fiberglass boats much faster than glass on glass! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I like my Stratos now, she is definately not the biggest or the fastest but she makes me happy. I started with a flat and a trolling motor and worked up every few years to what I have now. Its been a long time coming as I got my first boat when I was 14 and I just turned 50 this year. Sometimes I sure miss the old flat.....

Fished one yesterday. 17 foot bass sea nypmh with a oil injected 50 mercury. Drew an early blast off number so we had to button her down when the bog boats caught back up. Boat doesnt matter, man on the front deck is what matters. But havent a big boat sure does help when the wond gets up or making long runs in a short tournament.
