Thanks.

Now to go change another one out.. 22 rum fire updating ..

All the base/ring manufacturers have different torque specs on them and they vary widely. You will just have to look them up on the manufactures sites as you need them.
That is true n hard to find ..at least I couldnt get it to pull up Leupold sight last night.
Did find Rugers however..

Have to say as much like this thingy toy to do right n proper...I have done pretty fair without Not Bragging Just Saying. However My Old Eyes n Bi Focals n Catracts Dont help get em level n straight as could be anymore...1 big reason I gots LOL..

That works even better..
I actually never used loktight on any type of base or mounts or rings..Until a set of Weaver Tacticals n Pictinny Rail Base on a Handy Rifle 2 in fact worked loose...
06 n 30/30 believe it or not.

Only time ever had a base come loose n the ring stud screw both on the 06 n stud on 30/30 Locktighted n havent moved yet.

the past couple I have mounted recommended 40lbs for the base screws and 20lbs for the rings. I love my fat wrench!

I think he's saying that 40 and 20 in-lbs were the torques recommended by the respective manufacturers, and he loves the FAT wrench because it lets him achieve the recommended torque.

Specific torque values vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and even between different models of a given manufacturer. The biggest difference is between bases and rings made of steel or aluminum & other alloys. I've notice that torque requirements on aluminum usually runs about half as much as is recommended on steel components.

When I got my Fat Wrench years ago there was a rolled up paper in the tube with the tool and it has recommended inch pound torque for steel and aluminum bases/rings. I clean the threads on all my mounts with 91% alcohol and then use blue locktite on them.

Oiling the set screws is probably not good. We should be using anti-seize rather than oil. The thread lubrication from the anti-seize increases the total clamping force of the fastener at any given torque value. With that there is less stress on the assembly too. Locktite gives the same lubrication affect as anti-seize.

So I started using lube on my screws lately, and so far they have held well. It started when I got the wrong (ish) case lube, which I thought was Imperial sizing wax (discount bin), but turned out to be Imperial screw thread wax instead. It does work as case lube BTW, but after looking closer into it, it makes sense to lube the screws. If the threads resist, the screw may give you a false torque reading before it bottoms out, but when you shoot, it will vibrate the "locked" threads loose and begin to back out. I'll update you guys if I start seeing issues, but like I said, so far so good.

Here is a video, using wood, but the concept is the same.
