When building/ordering a topo map, what's the better way to "design" it? Are you getting it in UTM/MGRS/USNG grid version, which is what I'm accustomed to using in the military, or do you prefer to get it with Lat/Long grids and why? I know USFS maps had traditionally been in lat/long but now the new ones are coming in UTM, which is quite simple and pretty precise.

I have mine waiting in the order cart in a 1:10000 scale (500M grid squares) for greater detail UTM/MGRS/USNG grids in 36"x48" size.

I use the 1:24000 scale................not really familiar with others but I got mine for Cross Creeks from My topo and had them use the property lines so I could see the Off Area land clearly defined. it come in grid. this is the type I have used for 25 or more years. Would like to see what you are talking about. I also use Google Earth now to see the same and also to convert from typo to aerial view to see vegetation, water and trees easier. you can tell about the maturity of the hardwoods if the leave are off them when the photo was taken by the close proximity of the timber. I find this very useful.

Appreciate the reply Boone. There are several other size maps available on Mytopo, you have the option of viewing each one when building your map. If you select the 1:10000, which is the most detailed, you can choose what is call the Hybrid Ariel/Topographic, Select that, then preview the map. What you will see is an ariel view (Vegetation) with all the contour lines you have on the traditional Topo, best of both worlds. That's the one I'm gonna order. Area 13 will fill every square inch of a 36" x 48" map. It can be had with Lat/long grids or UTM/MGRS/USNG grids or both, I chose the UTM/MGRS/USNG grids.

You can see what I'm talking about here
