This site has always paid off when asking for advise. Looking to broaden my stand site selection. Can y'all take a look and advise on what else to do here? The stand in the funnel is my main spot but it only works with a certain wind. Looking to add a few spots this year. The barn is where I park and would be walking to my spots. It's is a really steep property and I haven't seen a mature buck here in 4 years in person. Red line is property line. I can hunt within it. Thanks for looking

One issue is you only provided a topo map. Therefore you can see the topography, but not the actual terrain (woods, fields, etc).

Just looking at the map, it appears you have the back side pretty well covered with your two stands. If it were me and I was just wanting to be sure I wasn't missing anything I would check out the areas where I have the stars. May be nothing there, but maybe a good spot. You can't tell until you go scout.

The creek looks to be flanked by steep ridges. All the gully's/ravines, should funnel deer to and from the top of the ridge. There is a small bench up the side of the ridge above the orange smudge. Most the areas I would check out would be down near the creek near the natural funnels. I also marked what looks like a bench between your two stands.

Again can't know if some of these are in the middle of an open field without a satellite image.

My first choice would be the creek bed on the far west end of the property. I bet deer funnel in and out of the fields using it. It should be easy to tell when scouting. It would be a long walk from the barn. Maybe there's a fence row or something on that west boundary that you could follow in.

that creek bed appears to flow east...approach that creek from the most eastern border and hunt the north side. Find some acorns, honeysuckle, something getting chewed on. If you can find a place where the woods open up to your north and/or west.

Where is the food?

There is a big waterfall to the East so the water would actually flow to the west.

There are acorns to the N and browse/ honeysuckle all on that bottom. The only issue is everything is thick so it makes it hard to see

I will get about 6-10 hunts on this farm per year so hopefully I can figure something out

I assume these are 20' contours?

If so and there aren't any 4 wheeler trails to the bottom, how is he going to get his deer 400'+ back out to the top?

You better shoot whatever you shoot in the shoulders or it may never stop sliding down the hill.

A thick creek bed is exactly where I'd be sitting. Who cares if you can only see 50 yards if you're seeing the right 50 yards

They are. This land is steep. There is a 4 wheeler trail, but even it scares me to death. I would have to round up a side by side to get one out if I shot it in the bottom. It looks nice down there but it SUCKS walking back up..

This is the only star(s) I would add to my map now seeing the satellite image (you could hunt either side of the creek depending on wind). That creek bottom is where I would go first. Usually the places that suck to get to are the places big bucks use, because no one goes in there. If you killed one and could not get a side by side, you could put him on the front of an ATV so that the weight was on the front and would help you keep the front tires down coming up.

I can't help you with the up hill climb coming out

So you would hunt the N side of the creek with a South wind and the S side of the creek with a North wind? Expecting deer to be traveling through the bottom along the creek, correct?

Well you'll have to get in there to see how they are travelling, but based on the map and the comment about them using that creek to exit the field one would assume they would be coming up and down the creek, but don't discount that they may be coming off or going up the ridge. So to answer your question, yes that is how I would hunt it assuming they are going up and down the creek. Again, pay attention to whether they are then going up or down the ridge. Hunt the side that you want assuming you can make the wind work.

My guess in the AM is IF they are using that field, and they come into your property, then they will come in as daylight is approaching (especially bigger bucks) once in the woods, they will go to one ridge or the other to bed. Of course they may be bedding near the creek if there is water in it and thick enough stuff on its banks. You will just have to look at it and see what you can tell.

I only hunted the funnel stand last year. I always get good deer on camera there but never see them while hunting.
Looking at the maps your property appears to be a travel through property hence the reason no daylight pics of good bucks as you mentioned. I'd hinge cut a whole south facing point or knoll if I was you and give them a reason to bed there
