I know it's really late to sow anything but my plots got hammered. [winter wheat, oats, clover and cereal rye] All my plots are down to the ground and even have some bare spots from over grazing. Just looking for something to tide them over until Spring.
Thoughts?

It's never too late. I mix wheat, fertilizer, Pell lime when ever I need to boost a plot in fall or winter. It will be slow but a few days like we are having this week and it will germinate. The thatch will help cover and hide the seed.

Same here. It comes up thin and slow but it does come up. The biggest benefit IMO is the way it explodes in early spring. Makes for an excellent green blanket for summer plot seed or leave it standing to provide fawning and poult cover.

Thanks everyone for the quick and helpful input. I did sow, fertilize and limed a couple of my plots today. Total area was around 4 acres. Fingers crossed that the forecasted heavy rain doesn't wash everything away.

I broadcasted some wheat in March last year before green up started and it made seed heads at the same time as the wheat I planted in September. This was in Arkansas.
