I'm speaking for my self but I do find myself carrying so much stuff in the woods to sit all day waiting on deer. Probably need a pack horse. Stand ,clothes to keep warm ,food ,gun ,calls etc just about anything you can think of. Am I the only one doing this? Don't like to put a stand in a day before the hunt just me but I think I could mess up my hunt when I'm somewhere new so I carry everything in that first time. then when hunting a few days leave stand and pack everything else out. Pew tired thinking about carrying everything lol.

I have a little military medic bag, single pouch, that I carry my Sharpfinger knife, a grunt tube, recently added doe bleat can call, a small hand held flashlight, and a clip on flashlight and a rattle bag, oh and a small compass. That's about as light as I go.

Yep I raise my hand guilty also. I went in the other day and hunted off the ground and still carried enough stuff that someone walked in with me to help carry all my crap.

I have a good story related to this subject. A few years ago when my dad was in his 70s and still hunting we were getting ready to go out one morning.

He was trying to get all his stuff together. He said when I was young all we carried was a gun, a I Ife and a pocket full of shells. Now look at all this stuff I'm trying to carry.

I think my backpack weighs about 15 lbs, feels like it anyway. I have my insulated overalls, usually toboggan, neck gaiter, couple flashlights, grunt tube, doe in heat can, couple of knives, rope, snacks, water, and a few other miscellaneous items.

I've been known too carry everything but the kitchen sink....

Since I found this small wash pot, there know need for the sink anyway.

If it can't get it in the lil'waist fanny pack or my pocketses (Gollum from Lord of the Rings) it don't go. PBJ sandwich, short water bottle, phone, dark chocolate minis, maybe some jerky and that's about it.

I carry a ton cause i try to stay warm and have different junk for that snacks and grunt tube. Butt wipes and other stuff. I do hate the heavy pack. But I hate being cold. Maybe I should spend extra on lighter warmer clothes.

When I was in my late teens and twenties, I'd snicker at guys who carried a lot of stuff to the woods. Then I wondered why I could only stay a couple of hours til I was cold, looking for leaves to wipe, or hungry and thirsty.

When I started taking what I needed to the woods for those few days out of the year that I stay all day, it wasn't nearly as hard to stay put comfortably.

For those hunts I have a pack with a shoulder harness and compression pod that I can strap extra clothes to, and also holds what I need without feeling like it's a full ruck sack and I'm on patrol.

Its made all the difference for me on several all-day rut hunts.

During an all day sit I also pack heavy. I did invest in an IWOM so no need to take extra clothes for warmth anymore just a base layer and outer layer and I am good to go. Pack usually consists of the following items for an all day sit

Peanut butter sandwich
Trail mix and power bars
5 bottles of water
Field Wipes
Small bottle of Scent Killer
Headlamp
Extra Batteries
Book

Plus all my normal stuff hoist ropes, 2 gear hooks etc. I know some people frown on the book but about 1100 or so it helps out and keeps me in the tree.

I did an all day hunt Saturday. I got up, had a cup of coffee, went out to the mtn and sat till 12:30 or so. Came back to the truck(still parked in the woods), had a coupe more cups of coffee, about a 10-15 min break I suppose, and went back and got into a different stand again, hunted till dark. Saw a few deer. Didn't eat a bite all day. It's been a while since I did an all day hunt, and I felt it for sure that night, but it wasn't that bad. I still only carry the necessities, too much bulk and trouble to worry about all the extra stuff to me.

Can't do an all day sit anymore . Back just won't let me , do good to sit until 11:00am -12:00 evening 2-3:00 pm until dark . I'm just hurting so bad after about 4 hours I just can't be still . Wish I could I've killed some good bucks waiting until everyone was going out for lunch and then running deer by me . Don't hunt on big leases any more though . Used to let other hunters work for me . As far as stuff what won't go in my fanny pack don't go , I carry an extra coat but I just tie it around my waist and sit on it in the stand until I need it . When it's real cold I usually put a bungie cord around my insulated overalls and carry them to the stand .

Depends on the time of year. Will be in prehung sets for the next week starting tomorrow afternoon. But I will still have a couple knives, 3 flashlights, pull up rope, grunt call, and drinks and snacks to sit all day.

Guilty. I've got my Badlands pack that always goes in the woods with me. Hunting public this season has changed my load in weight. I now am either toting a ground blind and chair or a climber. I'm in a full sweat at 0530. Not fun but it's necessary right now. I'm looking to cut my pack "necessities" down a bit. I tend to have too much "what if / survival" crap in my bag. I think I can do minor surgery with the med kit I carry. haha.

And forget about being quiet....I sound like a brigade size element coming through the woods.
