Need some opinions. Looking to get a 7mm-08 and I can get the tikka stainless or the Rem 7 blued with the SS bolt for about the same price. As far as factory out of the box accuracy is one a lot better than the other? I like the Model 7 because it is a little more compact and would be a good gun to carry in my climber but if the tikka is gonna be a better shooter I am willing to go with it.

I have the model 7 youth in 260.
I also have a Tikka T3 in .223.

I would buy another Tikka if it were me buying one.
Granted I have the youth model in the model 7, so that might make a difference.

Also.. I don't think the 7mm-08 is an actual short action in the Tikka. I think all of the calibers are built on a long action. If that matters to you...

All 3 of my bolt rifles have been Rem. 700's...1 243, 1 308, 1 30-06. That being said I'd buy the tikka.

I would opt for the 6.5x55 in the Tikka. Too bad they don't make hunting versions in LH.

I was under the impression they don't import the 6.5x55 anymore. Has that changed? If so, I'll be shopping!

I own both a Tikka stainless .270 and a Model 7 in 7MM SAUM - can't go wrong with either. Both shoot at least 1" MOA. With handloads, my Tikka shoots 1/2 inch groups. I haven't found the right combo for my Model 7 yet. As for the wood/black stock debate....I love the look of wood, but just hate to scratch one up in the woods. So for a pure hunting gun, I like the black stocks.

I concur...That's why i turned down a wood stock Tikka for the black rubber.

Out of the box...this group is from my Tikka 7mm-08 shooting 140 grain cheapo Core-Lokts at 100 yards. The Rem 7 could probably do the same but I am definitely happy with my Tikka.

The top 6 shots were on a Lead-sled and the bottom three were off a sand bag. If I get into hand loads I'm sure I could do 10x better.

I have two Mdl. 7s one in 7-08 and the other is a .260 neither are tack drivers but plenty accurate enough for the type of hunting I do with them. Both of mine are the earlier mdl with the 18 inch barrel though so that might make a difference. They are perfect "tree stand rifles" and a pleasure to shoot.
I've heard nothing but praise for the Tikka's, both are fine rifles. If I was going to purchase a new rifle today I would probably go with the Tikka just because I don't own one.

I would go with the Tikka. If you don't like their stocks bell and Carlson offers a really nice aftermarket option. I have one on my tikka 300wm
