Thinking about my next rifle purchase, haven't decided but I like the prices of the Tikka T3 Lite and the Weatherby Vanguard.

Which would you go for?

Of course, I may just have to stick to my favorite, the Remington 700.... Lol

Stick with your favorite.
I'm somewhat partial to the Weatherby Mark V. My original primary reason for "liking" Mark V's was their shorter bolt lift. Not sure how many other makes are now using this, but believe Weatherby had the original patent.

You may have a new favorite with the Tikka. I have one in 260 Rem. It's my 2nd favorite rifle next to a semi-custom M70.

It'll be a cold day in the Congo before I give Remington another dollar.

I'd probaly choose Tikka just because of all the awesome reviews I've heard on them. I love my savages but I'll probably buy a T3 for my next rifle.

I love my Tikka 595 .270 but the plastic stock just makes it feel cheap. If I was to buy another one it would certainly have a wood stock.

Personally, I wouldn't care much if it was wrapped in duct tape, it's how it shoots that matters to me. What I mean is, that it doesn't matter to me if it's a plastic or wood or even composite stock, it it doesn't perform, it's junk. I have the cheapest of cheap by most accounts, a Rem Mod 710. Plastic stock, not too smooth bolt action, but it will shoot. But, I also have a Tikka T3 that I'm chomping at the bit to try out too. ;)

I'd buy the weatherby.

And i would buy a Tikka over a new Remington. If you find an older Remington i'd buy it over a Tikka. But if your buying new the new Remingtons suck. They just aren't made like they used to be.

they will both shoot sub MOA out of the box. Both have great bolt cycles however the Tikka has a 60degree if i remember correctly where the Weatherby has a full cycle. I think the stock on both is somewhat cheap but overall its acceptable to me. The Weatherby has a Monty Carlo style stock which you may or may not like. The tikka has a cheap drop out mag that may be a deal breaker for you. I have owned the weatherby and shot the tikka a bunch. I really like both but if i had to buy just one today I personally would go with the tikka. Just like the bolt cycle a tad better and its a tad lighter (which if you are getting a big caliber that may be a con rather then pro)

Tikka T3 Hunter. I picked up my .270 on GunBroker for $400. It may force me to leave my CZ 30-06 in the safe this deer season.

I think you may have this backwards.
My Weatherbys all have a 54 degree bolt lift.
My understanding is Weatherby invented & patented this, and many years later the Browning A-bolt also started doing it, as may have some others. By contrast, the Remington 700 has a 90 degree bolt lift (as do most bolt action rifles).

the MarkV may have the 54degree bolt but Im 99% sure the Vanguard S2 does not, it has a full bolt cycle (which is the one the OP is looking at). I may be very much wrong on the tikka as its been a while since i have operated one though.

I am only intimately familiar with the Mark V, and have never owned a Vanguard. Had thought all Weatherbys had this 54 degree bolt, but that may not be the case. It is the case with the Mark V.
