Thumb Trigger Hunters Sound Off

Theres going to be a lot of free hands in the stand this season lol

I love putting my bow on the hanger and locking up my thumb trigger to the d loop and being hands free till its go time.

I tried a Tru Ball Max Pro 4 once. The travel required to get the jaws to open up and allow the string to slip through was too much. The trigger of the Scott Exxus and comparable releases is a different league. It took me a bit to get it just right but I have my Exxus set up to fire with virtually no trigger travel. Just wrap my thumb around the barrel anchor and engage back tension. BOOM

Not hard at all. The hardest thing is finding a repeatable anchor point and resetting the peep, if the new anchor point changes the peep height.

Now if your going to incorporate setting it off with back tension, then that can take a some learning but it still isn't difficult.

How hard is it to make the switch to thumb trigger?

One thing I've found with a thumb trigger is it will make your draw weight more "honest". With a wrist strap theres more support to draw heavy draw weight. To make a smooth draw with a thumb draw weight is more critical. I grip my thumb trigger in the first grooves below my finger tips. Its tough the first few times drawing if you're over bowed.

I feel the opposite of UT. I can pull more weight easier with a thumb release than with a wrist strap. I didn't have to change anything. My anchor point stayed the same. It felt natural drawing with a thumb release.

Question for you guys that can draw more weight with a thumb. Do you grip the release deep in your fingers closer to the base of the hand or out close to the finger tips. I think if I gripped the release deeper closer to my actual hand I could have more leverage.

second knuckle is where I draw my hinge .
But seeing as how we just had the baby and i havent shot as much as normal I might be in the market for a thumb trigger if you know anyone . It will be weird since I haven't shot anything but a hinge in over 2 seasons . Lol

2nd knuckle. Having walked the Pro ranges and observed their techniques....most all of them grip that way. I started doing it because I could find a more solid anchor that way. That may be their reason too...never asked any of them but I noticed a lot of them doing it.
