I use calls and rattling horns, real ones, but I wait for the right moment. I may hear a deer out of sight, the wind is just right, a hot doe just went by, I hear a couple bucks sparring, maybe there's a good bedding area nearby. When using calls, less is more. You could do yourself more harm than good. I see them as a tool. Use the right tool at the right time, the right way to get the best results. The more experience you have, the more you will understand when where and how.
