FYI....I recently bought two conair adapters and 10 conair butane cartridges for $14 off eBay. With a little modification it works very well in my thermacell unit and I have enough butane for early season, which starts sept 7 in ky. No more high dollar butane!

You just have to cut a circle out of the bottom cap so the adapter can stick through. It is a little longer due to the conair cartridges being longer.

You can always buy the pads. Got plenty of pads from over the years. The butane runs out before all the pads. These conair cartridges have more butane in them and why not pay less more of them.

Not sure time wise but longer than the thermacell cartridges. I'll need more field time to know specific time frames for the conair cartridges.

This is my first season to bow hunt. I know I'll have to take my Thermacell, but I keep wondering about the scent. Are there special pads I need, or is scent just not an issue with them?

jlmustain,
I have never SEEN an adverse reaction by a deer due to the thermacell.

I figure if they are gonna smell it, they have probably already smelled me.

As for the conair butane, I have used them alot in my thermacell with no modifications.
UNLESS they have changed them in the last couple of years.

I bought about 10 of them at one time and haven't had to buy any in quite a while.

Actually I use the scent from the thermacell to cover my own. I don't think deer associate it with danger.

As for the modification you don't have to do anything but to use the bottom cover you will have to cut a hole because the adapter is longer than the original cartridges.

....and check out the hair dryer section of Walmart or anyplace that sells Conair hair dryers. They have a butane model that takes the identical cartridges and they're about 1/2 the price of the same ones sold in the sporting goods section.

My bad, that right there is what I bought.
