What varieties of SG work the best in SW TN? I just got some new property and the field portion is split between a few different tracts, so I'd like to create somewhat of a screen along my property line and figure SG would work pretty well until I can get some evergreens established.

SG didn't do to well at my place. For whatever reason it was out competed. Big bluestem and indian grass did really well here if it's not mowed close. Indian grass lays flat in late winter. Big and little blue are the hardiest I planted.

You do what you like but if it was me Id do a screen of plum trees alternating 2 deep. You will have a thick screen in a year if you tube and fertilize.

I agree it would be more beneficial with the added soft mast, but after the leaves drop in the winter would it still provide a visual screen?

I've never planted it and have zero experience with SG but the Cave In Rock variety was mentioned by the wildlife biologist when he came to take a look at my place.

Chester county is near me. I planted a crp blend fifteen years ago, and it seems the big bluestem has lasted the best. I remember my blend had big bluestem, little bluestem, indiangrass, switchgrass, and side oats gamma.

Partridge pea has been heartier this year than I remember in a while.

Agreed! I have partridge pea absolutely everywhere. We burned last year so maybe that's it but it's popped up in all sorts of places it wasn't before.
