One of the better stands in recent memory. Got rain at the right times.

Beautiful. I see a lot of big fields full of sunflowers. My wife wants me to plant a big field of these. Did you use a planter, drill, or broadcast the seed? Does anyone harvest them for the seed or are they just later bush hogged down?

This particular patch is only about 2ac, was broadcast, and you might be surprised how much deer browse them when they're young/tender. Turkeys bug/rear broods in there, songbirds, pollinators etc just love it. Plant a little heavy (hardly exact) and browse pressure thins to just the right density for pretty good seed production.

Also drilled another 7ac of SF but/w cowpeas and sorghum right smack dab in the middle of the farm that will draw critters of all types for months. We shoot a few doves over'em but speaking especially of the mixes...they draw all kinds of wildlife and there will be a least a few deer think they bit into a bad cowpea this fall.
