subsonic 223

I don't personally, but I would suspect the 69 grainers would be borderline for stability at subsonic speeds out of the 1:9 twist.

Sprinkle a little trail boss in the case (sarcasm :), check the net for actual charge, but it won't be much) and give 'em a try. Probably cost you around 15 cents/ round to experiment :)

If they don't shoot right off the bat, try a lighter bullet or one with a lower BC.

I am finding people using 4-5 grs of BLUEDOT and 55 gr bullets for 1000 fps,,

would I be completely insane to try this??

Look at Hodgdon online data they list several loads with pistol powders. I have a load I use with titegroup in a surpressed AR. Problem with these loads for the most part there is not enough to cycle the action.

Also if you are using a supressor you must shoot without it first to make sure the rounds are not keyholding. PM me if you have any questions have been playing with this stuff for a while.

don't forget to start a little high and work your way down with a chrono to just under subsonic velocity (just the opposite of what you would do with full-bore rounds).

You don't want to start out too low (600-700 fps) and stick a bullet in the bore, not realize it, then followup with the next shot and blow up the barrel.

The great thing about trail boss is it isn't supposed to be too sensitive to powder position within the case. Also, since its so low density, it'll go farther filling up the case.

The stuff I've loaded subsonic have been pretty decent accuracy wise (around 3/4" at 50yds and 2" at 100). Got a 300 blackout project bolt gun in transit from GA Precision currently, hoping it will be more accurate... 16" 1:8 twist bbl, trued rem 700 action. Gonna put it in a B&C Ti takeoff stock and bed it. Should be a really nice lightweight fun gun to shoot 240gr cast .308 bullets at 1000 fps. It'll hit hard as well :)

I've heard of guys using Unique powder to load .45-70's to shoot a 405 gr bullet at 1000 fps. Would be a neat gun to have a suppressor for.

I've thought about that more than just a little...

Can you imagine in MS, using a 45-70 with a can on an encore frame during our 'primitive weapons' season- it would be perfectly legal! I just can't find a manufacturer which will warrant a .45 can to handle those kind of pressures.

I know a guy that has a Rem 788 44 Rem Magnum that shoots the heavy weight XTP through a can at 1025 fps that is the quietest rifle I have ever heard, bar none.

yeah, the 44mag in a rifle configuration is sweet out of the typical .45 cans made for 45 ACP pressures. But most light .45 cans would fall apart with the 45-70 pressures, even subsonic.
