Does anyone know if you can get a Ranger or Rhino street legal in TN? I've been hearing conflicting reports about the need for certain lights, mirrors, etc. and the ladies at the courthouse didn't have a clue.

For any vehicle to be operated LEGALLY on any public roadway it must meet all requirements of state laws, which include registration plates. If you can't register it and get a license plate for it then it is not street legal.

i put a one of those orange farm implement triangles on mine and keep a bag of feed in the back and they have never bothered me mine also has hazard lights

You can google street legal UTV and get different results from different states. Some require all the bells and whistles and other just require a windshield and a mirror. I haven't been able to find anyhting on this in TN.

Someone at a dove hunt this weekend said you need a mirror and a $66 secondary road tag and you could use it on roads where the speed limit was 45 and under. He also said it depended on the county. However, the ladies in my county courthouse didn't know what a Polaris Ranger was and they weren't very helpful.

Someone had a Polaris Ranger on craigslist with a TN tag and "street legal" in the ad a few months ago. So I assume it's possible.

Yes, you can. I sold my Rhino to my father in law. The first thing he did is make it street legal. It was the first one in our county to be registered. You must have a windshield, blinkers mirrors and maybe a few other things. It is registered as a medium speed vehicle. County Clerk should be able to help you out with it. Just use the term, "Medium Speed Vehicle".

Which county was the Rhino legal in? I got very little help from my CC.

They pulled off the "MSO" from online and it states that "the Ranger is for offroad use only". She said that's end of story and it couldn't be done in TN.

It was done in Franklin County. Nina Tucker is the County Clerk. The Ranger may be listed as off road only but it can be modified to meet the requirements of a medium speed vehicle. The rhino is off road only but was modified to meet medium speed specifications. Your CC must not have the right information. She might want to give Nina Tucker a call in Franklin County. if anyone is on top of the regs, it would be her. If it could not be done, I assure you she would not have issued the tag.

blinkers are not a state requirement for motorcycles in tn.
brake lights, a helmet and i would guess there would be a speed limitation.

never had a problem other than one time when the officer referred to the warning on the machine that said "off road use only"

I also heard blinkers were optional, you could hand signal. Also, heard a mirror was required and a windshield with safety glass. I've googled the topic over and over and can't find a for sure answer about TN law, though.

i saw some cruising the strip at the rod run at pigeon forge this weekend and golf carts too. they had plates on them.

I have a Ruff and Tuff 4x4 that is street legal on 30 mph and under streets. They are called slow speed vehicles. The Rhinos and faster vehicles can be made street legal for streets 45 mph and under. They are called medium speed vehicles.
