This year I am going to to a larger food plot than I have in the past. Normally I will plant 2 down in a few hardwood bottoms I have . Nothing too big mostly with a biologic mixture and my walk behind tiller.

I want to do an area about the size of a football field on the top of a hill where one side is hardwood and the other is heading down the hill to a creek bed.
The only equipment I have is a pull behind brush hog, my 4 wheeler and my walk behind tiller.
here is my questions
- Once I cut the growth out there I will need to get rid of the weeds can I do this soley by spraying them with the Gly and about how long does that take?
- Without the use of a tractor and a large disc how woudl I be able to plant the seeds? Or will I need to get some one with a tractor and disc and pay them to come break it up?
-- thinking possibly oats, iron/clay peas, clover ect...no water out here except for the creek at the bottom of the hill

what are yalls thoughts?

does the weed killer take the weeds out completely?

Like FH stated, if you spray it with enough, it will kill everything. We usually put in a little more than recommended for that purpose

If you cut then you need to wait a few weeks before you spray. It needs to be in a growth stage to appropriately absorb the herbacide. However if you're only doing a temoprary or annual plot you dont really need to worry about an extreme kill. In that case cut and wait a week. Spray and wait a week then till and plant.

I like waiting until sept before planting anything for a fall food plot becasue the weed growing season still has a lot of time to develope. I prefer the mid of sept for wheat/clover mixes or even oats. i do plan to plant turnips in mid august however.
