Seems like a lot of effort to me. It'd take a lot of squirrel cleaning to net a typical batch from say a deer or cow. I wouldn't think it's worth it.
 
Its not allot of work if you leave it on the bone. I say jerky it whole with the tail on for a handle. That way you make squirrel jerky pops.
 
I'd try it if I had a whole bunch of squirrels and got sick of cooking them the traditional ways. I've just never had that problem :)

Sorta applies to fish jerky as well - I like it prepared normally so much, I could never make myself dry any out.

Believe it or not, my old boss used to make his jerky out of tenderloin. I thought that was absolutely criminal, but his family didn't eat venison very much, so he thought it was no big deal.
