Squirrel Rut

Anyone seeing any squirrel rutting activity. Heard a guy had 6 squirrels up a tree yesterday. This if the first of any rutting going on i've heard of. My dogs haven't treed a tree yet with multiple squirrels this year. The rut should be starting anytime. The last two weeks nothing but alot of dens as well. Not alot of movement that we have seen.

Maybe if we get some warmer weather, we may see some activity.

Usually don't see it until late January-february while running squirrel dogs. With squirrels short gestation period if they bred now they'd be having pups during the harshest part of winter.

Just talk to a good friend. Shot one out last night had 4 little ones in it. In some places they are already breed and and having little ones.

I've only seen the young bucks pestering the does so far. I'd give it another couple of weeks.

I seen lots of chasing in the past week or so in Humphreys Co.

I've got a Friend & his Dad who killed 14 Saturday & 18 on Christmas Day!

I killed 7 New Years morning 1 young male, 1 old male and the rest were females. Killed 3 at one tree and the others were paired up moving across the ground. I did find a couple trees they were cutting out of and nuts on the ground, almost looked like a spring cutting!
Was a very enjoyable hunt.
