The discussion regarding wearing orange while small game hunting during deer season made me wonder.

Are squirrels color blind?

Id like to film a squirrel hunt or 2 over a couple.good dogs! Only problem is I can never get with anyone cause im usually rabbit hunting. In fact Id like to do a rabbit hunting.dvd but id throw anything with dogs on if I could!!

Talked bout doin that on the beagles but woukd prob need to be attached to a gps collar incase its knocked off!

I never see them shy away from me while wearing hunter's orange, which leads me to believe that they either can't see it, or assume that anything glowing orange in the woods isn't a threat.

Either way, it seems like wearing orange is nothing but a good thing in that regard (safety, and/or false sense of security for the little rascals).

I was pondering on this last week,as a kid I always heard that they could see color & that deer were color blind & they saw things in shades of black & white, dont ever remember reading that said the squirrels could see color tho, but I do know they can pick a man out from a long way off.

funny i am reading this...We rode 4 wheelers today in a well none area in Cannon county...I took the 17 just incase we seen any tree rats...I usually throw on my fleece orange but forgot today...

I often wear an orange cap while squirrel hunting. Have not been able to tell any difference whether wearing an orange cap or camo cap. Squirrels can be quick to pick up on movement and noise, but imo, wearing an orange cap is little if any disadvantage to killing squirrels. I suspect a solid color shirt & pants might be a slight disadvantage over camo, but my dad killed many limits wearing solid colored pants & shirt, along with a solid colored cap.
