squirrel call

by making them bark - wouldn't that means it worked? of course, the alert and running for cover is not exactly ideal results.

I carry one with me in the early fall hunts, but don't need it for the late winter/spring hunts. I only use it if I KNOW that squirrels are right in front of me, but aren't making a sound or moving. I inhale through the barrel to make a squirrel in distress call. Sometimes works, sometimes not.
The problems is that lot's of times they will just stick their head around the tree to see what all the comotion is about, and they don't really move. It also alerts them to your presence, so if you use one, make sure you're camoflauged up.
I only use mine in times (like right now) where there's so much foliage on the trees that you can miss seeing one. In the late winter when there's no leaves on the trees, the squirrels come down to ground level to eat, and the call isn't required.

i broke down and bought one - i figured if that many people thought those things worked on a deer - why wouldn't it be effective with a squirrel.

cut ya a limb with a bunch of branches on it and beat it on the ground while you blow the distress call. you will have squirrels barking all around you.
