Due to my travel restrictions, I am thinking about just planting clover in my plot next year. 3 questions:

1. Do deer REALLY use clover that heavily throughout the year, i.e. travel to it as a food source? I ask because it is sort of at the back of a neighborhood, and the yards there are full of clover. They are occasionally seen in back yards eating clover, but not daily.

2. Again, due to travel restrictions, would mid-March be too early to plant in NE?

3. Loblolly pines. When best to plant?

Regarding planting pines lots of prep + planting will be done coming up in Jan/Feb/Mar.

If you've got travel restrictions you might also consider frost-seeding your clover if the seedbed/pH can be made ready. I've had really good success with tiny seeds like clover on a clean, level seedbed that's free of debris. The continual freeze-thaw of the soil through the winter months works the seed in just enough, and when the soil temps rise enough to germinate you're off and running.

I planted a plot of clover in mid February last year in Williamson County and it was the best plot I planted. I will never plant clover again in the fall. And yes, they do use the clover alot during the summer and early fall. I find that they are eating the tall tine tubers and chicory right now. It is
good to have food sources that they will take advantage of all year. Those sources can be planted side-by-side in the same plot if you want to keep them coming to a general area all year.
