Last year I disked about an acre behind my house and planted winter wheat. I actually had to disk it several times to get it broke up but did not spray and kill it all beforehand. I got my buddy's sprayer yesterday and am going to spray first but have a couple of questions:

1. How many gallons will it take on an acre?
2. Thinking of 4 oz. of gly4 (TSC brand) per gallon. Is that about right?
3. How long do I need to wait after spraying before disking?
4. Should I spray again after disking?

Thanks!

We put a quart of gly 4 to 5 gallon water. We disked one week after spraying. We do not spray again after disking unless we are planting corn or beans. I want to think we did about 2.5 acres with 25 gallon. This is not by any book just trial and error. It will disk up way easier.

With the TSC gly I would wait 2 to 3 weeks before disking.

4 oz per gal @ 5 mph, would mix about 15 gal

You wanna know what the TWRA biologist told me a few weeks ago about spraying my field/pasture that was mostly fescue and johnson grass = Gly 4, 2 quarts per acre as mister jfarm mentioned before me (I've used less and had to spray AGAIN - too expensive to be doing that). I would wait at least a week before I disked it and you can tell when it is dead obviously. Would you feel comfortable burning it after spraying it? Would make discing under quicker and easier on your equipment. I used the Co-op brand GLY-4 if it matters.

You only use 4 oz of Gly-4 in 25 gallons of water or are you referring to a different herbicide?

Oops, my mistake. 4 oz per gallon, which is a little over 3 quarts for a 25 gallon water tank.

Thanks guys. Sounds like 4 oz. per gallon is what I'll go with and then wait a week before disking. His sprayer is 15 gallons so I'll fill it up and go from there. He told me he disks the next day and then sprays again so that's why I was asking about spraying again after disking as I had never heard that.

I would ask an herbicide specialist about that Gravey. Glysophate kills living plants, and the faster a plant is growing (the less dormant it is) the faster it kills it. If you disk right after spraying, you might be forcing grasses/plants into dormancy by disking them and tearing up their roots, hence not get a good kill.

with Monsanto Roundup Ultra-Max, the farmers in my area are telling me to wait 24-48 hours before disking, the Ultra-Max is rain fast by the time you leave the area you sprayed, the rate on this is 22 ounces in 10 gallons of water per acre at a price of $17.00 per gallon or about $2.90 per acre plus application.

X2 - I wouldn't spray and then disc immediately, let it die, get brown and crunchy. Then, it will even disc in a whole lot easier and save you money in fuel if nothing else!

I Like to spray, when it turns brown burn it off ( if safe) then if time allows u can even let it start coming back and spray a second time ,
