Does it seem weird to have spotted fawn this late in the year.

Used to be. Seems like it's a more common to see them every year this late.

I have 5 just out of spots at the house. Still tiny. I had one bleating outside my window in the middle of the night. I guess momma is gearing up for some alone time.

I had a spotted that was begging me to shoot it during gun season two years ago. Whenever I went out, it would seem to show up in the field near my stand browsing on whatever it could find. That lasted about three weeks and then I saw it no more.

In a well-balanced deer herd, 95% of conceptions occur within a 6-week window. However, that still leaves 5%. A few of those 5% are very early, such as October breedings. But the majority are very late (January and February for an area with a November peak breeding). Most of the time, these are female fawns that finally reach the body weight necessary to enter estrus. But there are always those does with a genetic estrus timing that is very late. Nature gets around to trying everything.
