anyone have any favorite varieties that they like. i have one tree on this new place and it grows nice sized peaches but they arent that sweet so i just make jams and preserves with them, what the deer dont eat.

my old house had a tree and it was a huge tre, biggest i ever saw, with nice sweet peaches and dark orange red flesh. could this have been an indian blood peach? my grandfather had some on his place and those trees where tall with about the same type of peach and he called them indian peaches. they made great dried fried pies.

anywho, if these turn out the same this year i think im going to cut it down and replace it with a few good varieties. any suggestions?

I wish I could grow them reliably here. They flower too soon for our last frost in Cookeville most years, so I don't waste space in my yard on them. I got some last week that were absolutely perfectly ripe. No idea what kind they were besides delicious.

well, i pulled one ripe one today and it was very sweet. doesnt make any sense but it may be because of lack of rain and they are bigger than they have been in 3 years since i moved here. come to think of it when they werent so sweet , we had adequate rainfall. but the tree has plenty of drainage so its not waterlogged.

i wonder if the older the tree gets the better the peaches? this tree is probably only 5 years old. i think ill keep it for a few more seasons and see how it goes.
