Has anyone hunted a public dove field? I imagine they are about as crazy as they come opening day and maybe even the next couple. What are they like? How do they control the groups so everyone is not shooting into everyone else?

Im wondering the same thing as far as "shooting into everyone else" myself.

Ive never been to one either. How does the staked position thing work? I could see it turning bad if someone is out there and shoots low & left, etc... Of couse ive never been so, cant comment. But would like to know how the experiences are.

Its not too bad. Just keep your head down. Seriously people are usually courteous. Everyone looks out for everyone. If you see a low bird yell " Low bird" to let everyone else know you think the bird is to low to be shooting at. If you see a bird coming over someone yell "Bird!" and they may do the same for you on a bird you dont see. Never shoot at a bird that is lower than about 30 yds off the ground. Use some common sense and everyone will have a good day.

Boy that is a lot of trust in some folks I don't know. I still think I am going to go of course but I will be careful. If only I had a 20 guauge o/u instead of a 12...

wear shooting glasses or shatter proof sun glasses, take lots of shells,i normally take a case & carry 4-5 boxes to the field cause seems like somebody always runs out :) ,mike243

I shoot private and public every year,,,some public fields will have a quota on them,,,there will be a sign in sheet say for 100 people on that field and when it feels up thats all allowed until someone leaves,,,but most are just wide open,,,never had any real problems.

Im worried I won't get there in time. I am hunting goose that morning and then trying to make it back. Oh well hopefull about 20 minutes into shooting time I limited out on geese and can be there in time to make the 150!
