Well. I had been putting prelim plans together to do a self guided back country hunt for Mule Deer this year but due to schedule and position change at work I think I'm forced to wait until next year. If anyone's got any experience I'd love to hear about it. I've done some researching of course but still nowhere near a full plan yet. I was thinking NW part of the state. Lots of BLM land and walk-ins.

Drawing a rifle tag may take a few years. Archery tags are easier to get. Been considering going archery but never got it lined up.
Lots of whitetail in the black hills.

Right. Yea I was thinking archery for sure. Pretty much a guarantee tag, for now anyways. There is charter of change looming.

Plus. The tag will be good for whitetail or muley and you can add a doe for like $80.00

SD completely changed the non resident draw procedure. Not sure if it will affect your plans or not.
I've got a few deer points for various tags throughout SD, hoping to cash them in sooner than later.
