I am looking into getting my son his first gun. I have looked at the Crickets and they look just ok. I wonder if any of yall have any experience with them or any other "youth" single shot 22. I look at the youth Marlin Buckaroo and it looked bout the same but couldn't find any reviews of any of em. Don't want to drop a ton of cash but want to spend enough to get a quality rifle. I knew if anyone would help me out yall would.

i like the marlin brand,a nef in 22 long rifle would be hard to beat also, the weight on the nef would be heavier than the marlin,mike243

I bought man a cricket for his first gun.
It is ok but I ain't just crazy about it.
Seems to be pretty accurate though.

The CZ scout is the premier of youth 22s imo. It is heavier and bulkier than the cricket type rifles but will 'last', meaning to be usable, until they are grown and will last for several lifetimes. I use my boys' scout and it works fine for an adult too. Plateau Hunter

Sportsmans had a good selection of youth 22`s and Plateau Hunter is telling it like it is. The CZ is the cats meow and I also liked the Marlin a very distant 2nd. The Crickets are very nice as well. Any of these will put a big smile on that special child!

Heres what my boys started with an Ithaca Md 49 single shot,it's still in the safe, they used to be everywhere must be some around for sale.

A Winchester 67-22 if you can find one!!!! IF not than a 10/22 will do just fine ;)
