"too many bucks are being killed" folks and maybe the "too many does are being killed" folks.

was discussing harvest figures for the past season with some folks and it got me in data mode and i pulled the harvest data into Excel and did some light digging. I noticed that there are four categories: Antlered Buck, Doe Harvest, Button Harvest, and Antler-less Buck Harvest.
I added the Buttons and Antler-less Harvests to the Antlered Buck Harvests then figured the % of bucks killed for each county. I sorted by total deer killed to rank them from 1-95. Here are the results (sorry didn't know how else to do it):

what i wanted to point out is only one county harvested less than 50% bucks (Roane), but over all once you get into the Unit L counties for the most part, harvest sex ratios were relatively balanced. There may be a few Unit L counties over 60% but I don;t think there are many. most of the high buck kill % counties were Unit A and Unit B.

My county is in unit L (Lewis #64) with 69.3% buck harvest and only 339 does killed for the whole county! I saw 5 does and 2 bucks all season here and I averaged 3-4 days a week in the woods from opening of ML to the end of season. The deer numbers seemed way down on the couple of places I hunt here compared to a couple years ago. I would like to see us dropped from unit L for a few years but I don't see it ever happening.

Most of the east counties are over 60% for bucks. And most of those counties have just a couple of doe days during fireams and some like my county have no doe days. That could cause a skew in the percentage.

that is what i was trying to point out, but i just re-read, and I didn't word it right.

MOST of the high buck kills ratios are where the hunter's don;t have doe opportunities, but if you read on here enough you would think bucks are being slaughtered or another thread, too many does.

MOST of the counties with high doe opportunities are pretty even.

My home of Giles number one. Too bad none belong to me.

I have a small tract in Giles to hunt and usually get one there. not this year, but I did see some they were just over the property line.
