Fished for Rockfish on the Caney,no strikes but had 4 big ones follow my redfin to the boat.Just wouldnt take it,pretty place though.

Nice picture. I like when they turn away from the boat. I have had too many rods broke by them grabbing it right at the boat and pulling the rod down against the boat. This usually happens at night when you cant see them though. I will be trying the Duck at night for them pretty soon.

Up above that bridge a short ways is what is called falling water rocks. It is on your left bank going up. Between there and the bridge, at one time, was some hot area for rockfish. Top baits were the biggest topwater rapala and a fluke. When fishing the big redfin, had the same experience as you. If you can find an old, large Johnson Silver spoon, that might work. Saw a man catch six in a row with one. He had a big piece of white pork rind trailer and cast upstream about six feet out from the rocks. As it came by the rocks, he would slow way down and let it flutter like a dying shad.

WHAM! On six straight casts.

Try a 5" redfin. I have caught fish after fish a few times on a 5" when all around me no one was catching any but they were throwing the 7" redfin. A 12" sluggo (I make them myself) will work well when they do not want the redfin. Hogy also makes a great bait, I have the 10", here is one in a stripers mouth.

A jumpin minnow also will work when they do not want the redfin as well as changing colors. Rainbow trout and bone colored redfins work great on the Cumberland and the Caney.

my brother with one caught on a 5" redfin.
