who all makes their own sinkers? i make the bank sinker from a 3/8's to a 1 oz sinker and about to go to ebay and buy a few more molds and a hot pot next month.

So who else make their own sinker to fish with?

you be careful messing with lead, the fumes will kill you, somebody pouring bullets got back sic recently on 1 of the boards I read & he was being careful , Ck with Chaney lake & see what kind of story's he has heard about.

I have never had a problem casting my own bullets, I cast about 1500 bullets that are 422 grains each, I was basically taught the process from the guys out West on the Shiloh Sharps Site, some of those guys have been casting for over 50 years, there are only 2 issues with casting lead, #1 is to have some type of air venting system and #2 which is the main concern is to keep any and all moisture away from melted pot of lead

1 drop of water will empty a 20# pot of melted lead when the drop of water hits

I also cast my own lead weights for fishing

I cast 3/4 oz, 1 oz, 1.5 oz and 2 oz lead weights for catfishing in the Hatchie River, I use reclaimed lead from AT@T even though they claim they do not have any lead underground

just cast in a well vented area, the safest way is to have venting system pulling pot fumes away from yourself and not past yourself

the only other concern is to keep all moisture away from melted pot, 1 drop of sweat can be very dangerous

yeah i know a guy that died from melting lead in his house. so i'll be melting lead out side with a melting pot for casting. i always make sure i don't let water or anything get dropped in the pot of lead. i got 2 molds one is all 3/8's size and then i got one that makes from a 3/8's to a 1 oz sinker.

but i found it be time consuming but i can get a 5 gallon bucket of lead tire weights for free every time i go to my local tire shop. i might made enough for me and my family to use and anything over that i might sale on here or ebay. depending on what kind the buyer want.

Ah, the tinsel fairy... When she visits, she doesn't leave money under your pillow.

I cast bullets outside on the porch, under the shed, or in my dad's garage with the door open. Always well ventilated, always under a roof.

I make my Carolina Rig sinkers/weights. I turn them on a lathe and put a plastic insert in them to protect the line. I use two weights with glass beads in between. The metal I use is heavier than lead and brass, so to get 1 oz I can use smaller weights.

tungsten?

Yes, tungsten/heavy metal. I had a bunch of scrap pieces left over from a job we done several years ago. It is real expensive to buy, when I run out I guess I will go back to something else. I have enough to last several years. Nothing compares to the sound and feel of these weights. These weights and glass beads have a distinct sound. I think they really make a difference on one lake I fish.

I have been told if you push a tungsten rod thru a potato it will cook 2x faster, never had any to try it with ,it was a welder/steel work that told me that
