I checked some trail cams today and i have a decent 3 year old 8 point on camera over a salt lick and he is there every single day. score wise he isnt a wall hanger BUT as of today he is still in full velvet. I have never killed a buck with my bow so this is a factor in my decision too... With a gun i would never shoot this buck but the fact that I have never killed a buck with my bow and he is still in full velvet makes me wonder. Should i let one fly at him and get a full velvet buck on my wall or let him walk and become a sure fire shooter next year?

If he is not a shooter for you with a gun then I wouldnt shoot him with a bow either . My selection doesnt change just because Im hunting with a different weapon . But if the buck is what you want to shoot then do it . It's all your choice . Your going to get tons of different answers on here , but the only one that matters is yours .

I cant say that I would. I dont think I would get a buck mounted, just because he was in velvet, if he wasnt big enough to mount if he wasnt...

I'd like to have a velvet buck mounted but if he's not big enough he's not big enough. Does he have potential to be a stud next year or is he just a runt?

If I wanted to shoot him, I would.

it is just that simple and the opinions of anyone else would never factor into it.

same here

The first buck I took with a bow was in velvet and he wasn't big by any means. I was tickled to get my first bow buck and him being in velvet was just a bonus. Be forewarned that his velvet will be very thin and is apt to shed off or be scragally even if you get him mounted. Best of luck whichever way you go.

I WOULD NOT WANT TO SHOOT A SKINNY NECK VELVET BUCK. DEFINITELY LET HIM WALK

Killing your first deer wit a bow no matter whether it is a buck or a doe is an accomplishment that you will never forget. If I had the chance I would take it. Good luck!

If you don't wanna kill him I'll put you in a stand where you can kill a doe and I'll sling one at him!

Haha I was wondering if you would post on this... I know your opinion..

If you want to shoot him, shoot him. If not, let him pass. Absolutely a personal decision that I would let no one make other than myself. ;) Good luck!
