After not hunting for two weeks, I had to make up for lost time. I set up about 100 yards from a bedding area overlooking a logging road leading to and from the bedding area. Also, the spot I chose had a deep cut below the logging road which funnels the deer even more.

About 9:00 am I grunted for the first time this season. About 5 minutes later I look up and catch movement. As luck would have it, this 11 pointer was working his way around the edge of the logging road. He then proceeded to rub a bunch of trees and actually knocked a small sapling to the ground. At this point, I knew he was at least a 3 year old so I decided to take him. At 80 yards he gave me a broadside and I made it count.

Unfortunately, he ran straight down the mountain and died in the nastiest place possible. I actually had to quarter him and pack him out. I wish I had better pictures, but I didn't have anybody to take them for me!

Overall, the good Lord blessed me with one of the best hunts I've had!

Sorry for the low-quality picture:

Out of curiosity I too am wondering when you say mountain buck, do you mean mountains like citigo tellico? One of the biggest bucks I have ever seen was up by the power house on the hiwassee river.

Congrats! Man, I didn't think there where that many deer in those East Tennessee mountains, must be cause they're all at your place. :D
