Scrape questions?

Ok guys help me with this because I really dont understand it! I love the forum and are on here daily and love reading the post. Having that said, I read some where guys are serious and some are not! This maybe a stupid question and sorry if it is but I read where a guy pee's on all the scrapes he come across? Is that a funny or do other people really do that?

I just always have thought our urine would spook'em

Its 100% not a joke. I do this and if you try it you will be amazed at the number of bucks you catch on cam over that scrape. There are some nay sayers here, but if you want to try it and aint convinced then try it on a piece of land you dont hunt alot and see the results.

Find a scrape. Put a camera on the scrape.
Pee in the scrape and then check your camera about 10 days later.

Or make your on scrape. put a camera on it. Pee in the scrape and check week to 10 days later.

You should find that deer are working the scrape

I always thought that it was BS until I tried it. Pee'd on scrape put up a camera and sure enough had several bucks work that scrape.

For getting bucks on camera, especially OLD bucks, it is my most successful technique.

But also be forewarned, I don't think everyone's pee is going to work the same. If you take medications, they can come through in the urine. If you have low testosterone, your urine may not produce successful results.

So if a 60 year old with NO testosterone and drinks Fireball every night probably shouldnt try it. :grin:

I absolutely guarantee deer not only can tell the difference between human urine and deer urine, but can also identify individual humans by their urine, and probably tell what that person had for lunch. The question is, why don't they care it is human urine?

Then why will they "work" a scrape in the spring while still very much in velvet? And of course, it begs the question, why do does also not only work scrapes but make them at times?

In my opinion, a scrape has almost nothing to do with breeding and everything to do with communication. Why they are more active in the fall and closer to the rut, I can only attribute to travel activity and "strange" deer entering an area.

I no longer study such things and never use cameras so I bench my opinion completely on observance and theory-based common sense.

That would depend on whether it really does raise blood testosterone levels. Many "herbal" supplements produce highly dubious results.

The only reason i dont pee from the tree stand is the noise when it hits crunchy leaves. Im sure deer would get kinda skiddish if they heard it. Other than that, the smell doesnt bother them at all.

I know it sounds crazy, but instead of becoming skiddish, I've had numerous deer coming running to the sound, especially near the rut. To date, I have now killed 8 deer, including older bucks, that came running in while I was peeing from the stand. Just get ready to drop your "gun" and grab your weapon! (or should that be the other way around?)
