Another thread got me thinking about this deer. He was a real good buck for my area and this particular morning I let him walk because he was what you'd call high end. He was a solid 8 but young in my opinion. I killed him 2 years later. What do y'all think he scores and how old in these pics. I know their not the best pictures but they're the only ones I have left of him. By the way I'll post the buck that he is after a few guesses.

Not a lot to go on but in that pic i would guess he is 3.5 (assuming date on pic is correct and both pics have same dates) and 112"

Okay fellas I'm sure he was 3.5 and guessing he was 105 inches give or take, the date on the cam was correct it was 12/2/16. I killed the buck 2 years later on 12 /18/18. He grossed a little over 145 inches. The reason I posted was to show this buck in particular grew 40 inches of horn in 2 years. I really wonder how many bucks do this. By the way I never had another pic of him from the first pics I posted to the day I shot him. He was a ghost for a little over 2 years.

How do you know for sure it's the same buck? Unless they have a distinguishing mark on them I can never tell if I'm seeing the same buck from year to year.

I knew this question would be asked and I should have went ahead and cleared that up. I said I didn't have pics of him but neighbors did and weren't telling. They finally showed me pics after I killed him. Anyway he had a couple tell tale signs. One being a scar on his right shoulder which neither pic shows. Also, without that scar I could've picked him out by his right beam. All pics all 3 years showed it rolled down, up and in, nearly touching the other beam. I could also show pics of a few other deer just by horn structure that you would know without a doubt it's the same deer whether they're 2,3, or 4. You get enough pictures you'll know.

Lots of 2.5-3.5 year old 100" bucks get taken to soon. There is usually a huge growth rate inches after 3.5 years.
You also have to take into consideration where these bucks are living! Most deer do not live much over 3-4 years in the wild due to the area they are in. They just don't have a very safe place to live anymore due to encroachment by humans. We keep taking prime deer habitat and making subdivisions out of them.
Glad you were able to take him at a prime age! He is a dandy! Congrats!

Amazing how a deer can be around cameras on a farm, then disappear for a year or two. That is a really nice buck, like the extra brow, cool character. Congratulations.
