I am looking for a scope for my son. Looking for MAX eye relief. Circle plex or turkey plex reticle. Magnification doesn't matter. Leupold doesn't make the scope I use anymore. No red dot speed bead stuff. A real scope. Any ideas?

You MIGHT still be able to find a good USED scope like you're wanting.
I'd check out ebay, etc.

Pretty sure I know which Leupold you're talking about,
but I prefer the older Nikon Monarch 1.5 - 4.5 x 20mm shotgun scopes.
This particular Nikon has a smaller "footprint" and less weight than the Leupold "turkey" scope.

I've never understood why so many are using such large objectives on their turkey scopes.
20mm is more than large enough, especially with decent glass.
Plus, lighter, and smaller.

THIS is what I have on two different set-ups:

But good luck in finding a used one now.

I have a Pentax Lightseeker that was on the 870 I sold that I might part with if interested.
I have heard good things about them. Can you send me a pic and model number in a pm with price. I want to research the specs. Very interested.

I liked the looks of these and liked the 4" of eye relief but wasn't sure how durable they could be for $60.

Another vote for the Pentax Lightseeker. I have used one for years, and it has been great!
Your recommendation is what put me on it.
I also had a Pentax Lightseeker, but never mounted it.
The one I had was a 2.5x shotgun scope ---- excellent glass, imo, superior to the "turkey" scopes Leupold was putting out before they quit.

That said, I preferred the smaller, lighter Nikon Monarch 1.5-4.5 x 20mm,
also excellent glass, so I sold the Lightseeker still NIB.

I usually keep my scope set on 1.5x, which provides a huge field of view,
and much more detail and clarity than ANY red-dot type optic.

My Brother has had his for several years shooting 3&1/2" loads without any problems.
I've had mine for 3 years on my 835 and it hasn't given me any problems.
Holds zero and aligns with my eye as soon as it's shouldered.
I also have a friend in another state that has one on his 835 and he loves it.

You opposed to a reflex sight? I've got a Burris FF2 and FF3 and love them. Vortex Venom is also very popular. Great for kids. Eye relief is a non-issue. They mount lower than a traditional scopes so head position is better. And if the dot is on the target that's where it will hit even head or body position is less than optimal.

Edit - just saw the "no red dot" part of your post. But the good ones are nice.

I shouldn't judge them because I've never used one but I'm just nervous about anything with a battery. Murphy's law.

Understandable. But the Ff3 has an auto- off feature so you cant drain the battery by accidently leaving it on. And no more than they draw a battery will easily last years. I change mine at the beginning of each seasom just to be safe.
