This morning I sat in the tree I shot my first deer with a bow from two years ago. At 7:00 I looked down and a little buck was 15 yards from me. The wet ground made it impossible to hear him, and it was still a bit dark. I could make out a small fork horn rack, but what stood out was he had a double throat patch. I've heard of them but never seen one. Is that rare? I hope he lives and will put a camera in the area soon.

My tip is if you see a deer you want to take a picture of-make sure your phone isn't still set to flash mode  It was still dark enough he seen it and even though he wasn't freaking out, he didn't stay long.

I have yet to kill one, but at least the deer are definitely moving more than they were at the beginning of season!

Watch my video of the double kill I just posted, the doe in the beginning has a double throat (she never gave me a shot, I just up that on the video). My first deer ever had a faint 2nd throat patch. I've only seen it 2 or 3 times in person.

Thanks for tip on the flash.

Here's the only one I've ever taken with a double throat patch. Not too common I believe.

I know that it is not very common, but I can't figure out the allure of the double throat patch deer. I have seen a few people post trail cam pictures of young-ish deer with double patches and others stating that they would never pass him up because of the throat patch. I guess they are cool because they are rare, but I would never shoot a deer that I would otherwise pass merely because he had an extra white spot on him.

This one could've been dead, but I like big antlers more than pretty deer hair :)

They are about like bearded hens, not everyday common but not super rare either. If you hunt either very much you will see both.
