Anyone have one of these rifles?looking for best ammo for the rifle, any ideas where i should start?? Just about everything i have read on the caliber say 140's for whitetail.

He never showed but sunday evening i had a 140 lb doe show up about 10 mins before dark and i dropper her at 79 yards with the 06
That is one great shooting winchester
Thanks for the help

in a savage or stevens, 140gr or less, depending on which twist rate of your rifle. out of all the savage rifles ive had and shot, i would not buy a stock savage in 7mm-08 because of accuracy issues in that specific caliber, especially with the 1-11" barrels.

I shot it 7 times with some hornady ammo he gave me and at 100 yards i could cover 6 of the 7 with a quarter the other one was probabally me but damn i like this rifle

you got a good one then, there have been issues with a lot of rifles in that specific caliber.

SST come in 2 types Interlock and Interbond both are lead coor with gliding metal jackets, the GMX is an all Gliding metal bullet no core or jacket.

ok so i will probally be shooting factory ammo, the hornady sst is what i shot in it today and the gun seemed to like them ,i did some work for a guy that didnt have enough cash so i took the gun as partial payment so its a back up gun to my winchester 70 30-06 i live in byhalia and hut natchez trace alot as well as sumner county and i always hated going that far without a backup rifle so thats where im at with this gun.most of my shots are no further than 125 yds and i only hunt whitetail and did pop a couple of pigs in the past, thanks for all the responses and help with this, this is a whole new ballgame for me,i have always had 30-06 and 270's and i should have researched the cal before taking the gun as payment, but in the the past i have heard some people on here rave about the 7mm08 and figured i could find out more from people on here than google.

I get a 3/4 inch group with 140 grain federal premium Barnes Triple shock. My wife gets a 1 inch group with federal premium 140 grain nosler partition. My father inlaw gets 1.25 group with 140 grain accubonds. I could go on and on but it really depends on what your gun likes.

the twist in this barrel i 1-11.5 right? would a 140 grain bullet work or would i need to go lighter?or would a 140 be the max for the twist rate?

I believe thay Savage changed the rate of twist in the 7-08 to 9.5 because of accurracy issues with factory ammo.
