Savage recoil lug

I am getting ready to bed my 110 FCP HSPrecision 338 LM,,I have around 850 rounds through it and looking at it from the side the recoil lug actually looks to be bent forward a little,,
I would have to take the barrel back off to replace this but if it needs doing now is the time,,anybody ever have trouble with this,should I change it or just bed it up good and tight like it is,,it isnt much but you can see it with your eyes without a square or anything,,just slightly angled forward a little..

That's a tough call, I will say I have a recoil lug on a model 11 savage that had a side to side thickness issue, I thought about changing it out but didn't. Bedded the rifle and it shoots fine. I think if you have a good barrel to receiver fit, it should be fine, but it's your baby.

I have a savage 300 mag with the plate bent pretty good. It still hasnt caused any problems. And it is a wood stock.

Savage lug in my 10ml was a junk pressed piece of metal that sucked. I replaced with a Callahan .325" I think.

I would think that it would be ok if bedded. Obviously, the epoxy will conform to whatever shape it flows against while curing. Just be sure you don't get it locked together by letting the epoxy get in front of that forward tilting lug!

How do you think it got bent? I can't beleive even the 338 recoils enough to do that unless the lug is really thin.

I think it got fired a few times with the action screws loose,,

Well, yeah, give it a running start and it just might bend the lug.

The ranges you shoot, I would replace the lug. A little bit might never show at shorter ranges but 1500 yards away you might get inconsistent results. If the action screws were loose enough to allow the lug to be bent, you'd think those screw would need replacement also. I'm thinking the action to lug fit was not perfect and you are seeing that result.

Exactly! It will never come out again. Change it out, then bed it.
