Got a wild hair and ordered a savage 10 FCP-SR. 24" inch bull pillar bedded etc. basically a vlp with 2 inches shaved off and non stainless. Anyway, the gun shoots great. Shot 42.4 gr of RL15 with 168 AMAX today and was very impressed. But, with that said the stock sucks. Any advice on stocks? I like BC Medalist but open to manners or McMillan if they are worth it. the accu trigger is ok, but I have a rifle basix on order. Bottom line, great tactical gun. Shot 300 prone with bipods and was impressed with out of the box accuracy. I think a proper bed job, trigger and stock upgrade will make this one heck of a rifle

Isn't pillar bedding as good if not better than glass? A fine tune with the load will milk about all you can get, IMO. I'm a big Savage fan. Have 4 and they all shoot lights out. Even my boy's Axis in .243. Now, I did go with with HS stock on my 10 so, I have no 1st hand experience with the standard stock. Is your barrel the 5R?

I've got 2 of the new Magpul Hunter stocks that I like. I got the detachable mag kit for both. Both stocks are aluminum pillar bedded and the barrels are free floating. U can fin that stock on Gunbroker for around $200 shipped

If you have time, can you give more detail on what detachable mag kit and where you ordered it? I'm looking to replace my factory stock on my Savage and things get confusing about parts, part numbers, with different models.

In my opinion, B&C stocks are just ok. They're fine on a hunting rifle but if you plan to use this more of a range gun, go straight to a McMillan; well worth the money.

So, the only part you like is the barrel? :poke:

Yes I am a big fan of all Savages. In my opinion you really cannot beat their out of the box accuracy. I am warming up to the trigger but will still more than likely put the Rifle Basix in when it gets here. Reason being is I have a couple 12 BVSS with them in it and I guess its what I am used to. I just cannot get used to the stock. It is their "Accu-stock" and I guess overtime I will get used to it, or will get something else. I honestly do not think mine has 5R rifling in it, it is just the standard FCP-SR 1:10, barrel is free floated and threaded. Best I can tell it is a model 12 barrel, trimmed down 2" and not stainless. Tinkered with new loads, both using 168 AMAX with a COAL of 2.805. The gun seems to like 8208 XBR better than RL 15 and Varget. Did a Varget load of 43 and it shot good but the XBR took the prize. What HS Stock did you get if you don't mind me asking?
