Serious question. How do you sleep in a saddle? My climber is comfortable and I sleep in it since I stay In it most, if not all day. Does that small platform make you legs hurt after a few hours.

If I sleep its leaning my body against the tree most times. Either side saddle, or straddling the tree.

I try and have a tree that is slightly angling away from me. That makes it extremely comfortable to for the entire hunt, and to take pressure off legs, ropes etc.

Last year was my first year saddle hunting, and I used a 1 stick exclusively. I found it to be a way better experience than I ever had out of a climber. I didn't sleep a ton in it, but I always felt very secure in it when I did.

Just like sitting on a motorcycle, straddle the tree. Put your tether up high and lean on it.
No nothing ever hurts. It's pretty comfortable.

if i sleep in mine i'll either be leaning against the tree with my knees in a seated position or sitting and leaning against one of my sides. it'll take a little time to figure out what you feel is most comfortable regarding tether height, platform angle, etc. once you do i think it'll be comfortable. i can't say that its as comfortable as lounging in an ol man or summit but its pretty dang comfortable and the backband helps relieve some pressure.

i use a cruzr xc saddle, trophy line onyx platform (fits my size 13 well), and skeletor sticks with an aider. what i've learned is that what you use and get used to is what you'll like the most. with that said, you'll tinker with some stuff here and there but don't get caught up with what everyone else is doing so long as what you have works. saddle hunting is a lot of fun and adds a new excitement to hunting. best of luck this year!

You all and your saddle stands are crazy! Maybe when I was a young man, but not now.
If I hunted private land sure. I could see myself in a nice ladder stand or better.
But hunting public land. Hauling it in and out daily. To me it's easier to climb a tree, safer and lighter. I'm just as comfortable as a climber. The older I get the more comfortable it is. My back don't hurt anymore from sitting up a tree all day anymore.

And if you do it right, they won't see the bite marks in the tree 😏

Oh, absolutely. If I hunted an area where I needed to pack my stand in and out every hunt, I see the advantage.

Just curious - how much does your saddle set up weigh? saddle, sticks, ropes, carbiners, platform - all of it. Not trying to be jackass...I'm just curious how the weight compares to a climbing stand. Thanks.

i have two saddle setups and both come in under or right at 10lbs. one uses a single stick to climb and a rappel system to decend. the stick with platform attached weighs 2 lbs. rappel rope with belay device and carabiners weighs 4 lbs. the rappel rope is also safety tether while climbing. the saddle itself weighs 1 lb. (you can see the single climbing stick in pic)

my other saddle setup is a climbing platform that weighs 7lbs. i do not rappel with this system and carry a shorter tether that weighs just under 2 lbs with carabiner and ropeman capture device. with the saddle it all comes in around 10 lbs.

theres guys using 2tc climbing method (climbing just using ropes or amsteel) that can get a system down in the 6 lb range with a ring of steps or small ultra light platform. 2tc is not my cup of tea and im not that concerned with weight personally.

Thanks for the info. Those sound like great setups. Lighter than i thought they would be.

I also use a one stick. My stick attaches to my back pack, and my saddle is on. To me its the absolute best way to hunt. The one stick weighs 4lbs 10oz. Saddle is 30oz.

The jx3 and sticks was weighing in around 23 pounds. Which is more than my summit viper sd aluminum stand weighs 19 pounds. More versatile I'm sure but not lighter. Kind of close on comfort. You can really relax in a summit though.
What 10lb sticks are you carrying?

I wear my saddle in, don't even think twice about it when walking because the weight isn't noticeable (maybe 2lbs?). I throw my platform and sticks on my backpack, and that may weight 20lbs total including my backpack? In the same ballpark as your average climber so no noticeable difference. The biggest advantage when walking in to hunt a spot blind using a saddle over a climber is tree selection. With a saddle you don't have to find the straightest tree or saw a bunch of limbs to get to the right height.
Naps in a climber are more comfortable to me but I can still doze off in my saddle. Just not a good long nap like my ol man or summit 😎

I use a latitude method 2. They just came out with the Method 3 yesterday.

It is a 2 panel saddle that allows for back support.

it's very comfortable.
I'm hoping to check out the Method 3 at the mobile hunter expo on Sunday

I use a Cruzr 2 piece. I sure like the looks of the new method 3. My total weight is less than 10 pounds and it's very packable. It's really become my only option hunting in really rough stuff that is so hard to carry a normal stand around in.
