got in on a Snipershide shoot at Rockcastle next w/e,,they advertised steel from 300-1300,but the way I remember the range it only goes to 1100 and they had one target at 1525,,we will see I have 75 rounds 338 Lapua loaded with the 250 Hornady BTHPMatch bullet and 90 grs H1000 for 2900fps and confirmed dope to 1025.

gonna take my 223 also and a couple hundred rounds of 69SMK and 25 grs Varget for 3025fps,,it is very accurate to 700,in good conditions it will outshoot anything I have to 600.

this type shooting has become my favorite,,I do wish I could find a spot to try at a mile,,I really think I could hit a 55 gallon drum at 1760

do you have a link to the sign up?? I have shot there a few times, BTW what model 223?? I run a Savage/Stevens with 1:9 barrel changed from 69smk's to 77gr Nosler Custom Competition's a few months back and have been very impressed so far but only been to 300yrds, would love to see if they will hold together past 500.

I was invited by a friend that signed us up,,I cant even find it on the Hide site,,

my 223 is a CZ 527 Varmint ,they advertise it as 9 twist but by my measurments with a cleaning rod it is 8.25.

I tried bullets up to and including the 80 gr Berger, they all shot well at a much lower velocity,,I found through shooting a lot of ammo that the 69 gr SMK at 3,000 is about the best I could get and load from the magazine.it was the most accurate load I shot on paper also,it will shoot half inch groups at 100 not even trying,it will average closer to 1/4 than 1/2 for sure..

Yeah i look on the site too and could not find it.

my Savage/Stevens is a 1:9 also and did fair with the 77smk's from serria but loves the 77CCHPBT's from nosler and has a little better terminal ballistics than the 75gr TAP bullet from Hornaday. i have been really intrested in trying the noslsers on a doe but haven't been able to bring myself to pull the trigger yet.

I am running them over 23.2gr of IMR XBR8208 at 2785fps and averaging .271in at 100 and .843 at 200 if i do my part but past 300 i am afraid they will fall apart because the groups at that range opened to 3.5in"+.

the only bullet I liked that worked from the magazine was the 75 Hornady BTHP,,you can tell it hits the steel harder and would be a little better in the wind but it wont shoot as accurate as the 69..

I am going to try the 69 Noslers next time I get low on bullets as they are quiet a bit cheaper when buying by the thousand,,if they will average around 1/2 inch I will switch.

the last time I shot the 223 was at 300 on paper,,shot five three shot groups with 10X scope that would average less than two inches.
