Academy has a good deal on tje savage axis I was looking at the 6.5 creedmore. I am reading aome conflicting reviews on it. I was wondering opinions on it and weather i should just hold off and put some more with what i was going to spend and look at a ruger american? This will be a secondary gun

I'm not impressed in the least with the Savage Axis line ... Only bad thing I can say about the Ruger Americans is the stocks are flimsy ... Can be fixed with an aftermarket stock

The Savage Axis II that i bought my daughter is a tack driver. We love the little gun so far (.243). Hated the Savage Axis without Accutrigger.

Once I get my bonus, I'm going to order a Bergara 6.5 creedmore from gunbroker. I've seen a few in the 650-700 range.

Basically my thoughts. I went with the ruger.

Get a TC Venture that gun shoots through same hole at 100 yards and for the money you cant beat it. I have one in 6.5 and 7mm mag and both are deadly accurate.

I'm not a huge fan of how the Axis feels in hand or to shoulder, but many people swear by their accuracy. I've been very impressed with my 116, but it is more expensive. I like the feel of the American better than the Axis, but it is more expensive.

That is a steal on that compass in the link above.

I really like my Browning X-BOLT in 6.5 creedmoor but I would go with the Ruger ,have hear good reports on that rifle.

About $15 in Bondo fiberglas resin and 3/16' threaded rod:

I only have a Ruger American in the Ranch Rifle version in 300bo. But, I'm a big fan. If I were buying a 6.5, I'd probably start there. I'll prob stick with my .270 though.

6.5 Creedmoor is a GREAT cartridge. Savage Axis, not so much.

My buddy hated his 270 Axis and really liked my Ruger American Predator, so he sold his Axis and got the American. Loves it. Now I have the Ruger American Predator in 6.5 CM and 243 WIN. He has Ruger American Compact in 223 and 7mm-08.

As stated in other posts, the main thing I disliked about the Axis is the horrible trigger. Axis II is better, but I haven't personally compared it to the American.

I have to say my Axis II XP in 7mm-08 shoots as well as any rifle I've ever owned and I have some other brands costing 2-3 times as much that can't/won't shoot with it. It's very close to 1/2 MOA at a 100. I couldn't believe how well it shot, but it's a Savage. IMO they'll out shoot any production rifle out of the box. Maybe the regular Axis isn't as good as the Axis II, but I'd put mine up against any other rifle.

Remembering back that statement about Savage accuracy rings true...
I bought a Sako 7 mag that wouldn't shoot as accurate as my brothers basic Savage 110 in 7 mag. The older Savage 110's were ugly and looked cheap but sure was accurate.

I have a Ruger American and it's a tack driver and solid in hand. Savage did not feel as robust or fit as well as the Ruger, for me...YMMV
