Nice rifle, good caliber. I've got one that started life just like yours. I eventually put it in a laminated stock which upped the weight and added stability. It's a shooter and has done well with several deer. If you handload look into loads with the 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip and you'll find a flat shooting low recoil load that does a fine job on deer.

I like the old style ADL with the real wood stock and the real blue finish,,I will never buy another Rem with the black matte finish,,they will rust the outline of your fingerprints over night,,

IMO the best rifles being sold right now are the Rem 700 BDL/Adl`s that were made from the mid 70`s through the late 90`s

Like mr big I perfer the non matte finish 700's. I have one with the matte finish and you need to keep it oiled good, it will hold the oil pretty good and that helps a lot to protect the finish.

700's Great guns, 7mm Rem Mag is a very good cal. It's not that much more of a magnum... meaning I don't put it in the mag class like a 300 Win mag or 300RUM. I think of it more like a warmer running 270win or 30-06, where it about 100 or so fps faster for similar size bullet.
