Rattle Bag Vs Real Horns

Haven't used it yet, but I just got the Knight & Hale Pack Rack.
It requires two Hands but gives you lots of control, is lightweight, and won't rattle accidentally.

I have a Primos Rattle Bag. You can carry it in a Cargo Pocket and Tie it to your belt.
That way you can Rattle with one hand and then let it hang from your Belt.

Also if you are in a Tree you can hang it from a Rope and let it Rattle against the Ground which is a great technique

I prefer antlers but do sometimes carry a rattle bag out convenience. I don't use either very much but like to have them in case I need them.

EastHipster, the pack rack is nice my cousin has one really like it. I just bought the Hunterspec rattlin bag sounds really good

I just use real horns from a buck I killed in the past. Have rattled several deer with the bag but more mature deer with the real horns. They are 8 pt, about 110", horns that I cut the brow tines off to keep from smashing my fingers.

I did well with small rattle bags with wood not plastic inserts. mine came apart last season and I bought a big mack daddy bag... doesn't seem to work as well

Although I despise lugging them through the woods hanging around my neck, I use real shed antlers. I think they sound authentic because they are the real thing. Size also matters. The sound of giant antlers clashing together may send smaller bucks running for cover, but little fork horn antlers may draw little attention from the bull of the woods. Time and place are the keys to any rattling sequence but I like to use the real thing personally.

I use the pack rack, seems to work as good as anything else I've used but rattling doesn't seem to draw 'em in quite like a good grunt or bleat.

Best rattling bag I have found is H.S. Heavy Horns. It is a little bigger than most, but VERY loud and to me - sounds more like real antlers than any other artificial device I have found. That is what I carry and use. Have rattled up numerous bucks with them, including an 8 pointer I killed last year.

^^^^^^^ This

If I have a short walk to the stand, I will take real antlers. Long walk or I don't really intend to use it, rattle bag.

I use this method with real antlers. I have a piece of paracord between the antlers, and attach my pullup rope to the center of the cord, and lower to the ground.

Pulling on the ropes sharply bangs them together nicely. And as hipster mentioned, you can use them to rustle leaves. The sound of horn rattling mixed in with leaves being disturbed sounds fairly authentic.

FWIW- a well known and successful hunter/writer in GA prefers using this method with antlers from 3D deer decoys like McKenzie. Although he states that it doesn't sound as authentic to his ears, he has had a better response from deer than when using real antlers...

I use the antlers from my first bow buck. he was a small 8 point but they seem to work well and they aren't to bulky. I'm gonna have to try that technique with hanging the on a rope like yall are talking about. That sounds like a great idea to me.
