I would bet a dollar the the Pittman 225gr .402 would perk up that load. Its my opinion that the larger caliber and more weight will help 4198 sabot load be more efficient. I dont think you are getting a good burn for whatever reason. 4198 and a 200gr sabot load makes pretty low peak pressure.....even 60gr is relatively low.

N120 peaks a tad higher but its still plenty safe for that barrel. 58gr of N120 will easily beat the speeds you got. Ive heard of so many people having sabots fail using 4198 with loads WAY slower than the loads of N120 ive shot and never blown a sabot. 60gr of N120 in my 27" Pacnor was clocking about 2800fps and it never blew a sabot either.

How is it that this 4198 load is known to blow sabots but this load on N120 has been virtually flawless?

isn't the n120 kinda hard to find. I wouldn't mind trying regardless. I'll check out the Pittman bullets. Biggest issue is the tax on top of shipping buying direct. I've also thought of the fury lead tip or star.

Re: Range report.

Fury lead tip 40-250gr would be really good to try. I would go with the 250 over the 225 simply because its not a .402. Once im caught up on Christmas i want to send some 250s to Scat for a couple traces with speeds. I bet a 40-250 in a sabot with 56-58gr of H4198 yields more fps that most would guess and pressure is very very reasonable. Its my opinion that some single based powders are not as efficient as they could be under 30kpsi. Of course this really depends on the powder and sabot fit too.

N120 right now is easier to find than N110. Ive seen it at many of the online sources recently. A few had it on sale for about $7 off a pound. That brings it down to almost a similar cost as 4198. Right around $33/lb
