I'm wanting to get one for the military collection. Already got a mauser and sks. I've seen them from 69.00 to 299.00. I"m wanting to spend about 175.00. Aside from matching numbers and good rifling in the barrel, anything in particular to look for or stay away from?

Any recommendations of a good place to get one in the knoxville area? Thanks

Which model are you wanting? If its the carbine, I'd get the russian over the chinese. I'd just make sure it did not have too much pitting in the barrel or on the receiver and the stock was in good shape.

Fox & Company said they are only dealing in blackpowder and air guns. What about Coal creek armory...know anything about them?

Personally I like the M44 carbines. Very fun to shoot, they will throw a flame out the barrel about three feet. I have a Polish, Russian and Chineese. Am wanting a Hungarian next, they usually have a nice grey patina to them. The Polish ones are considered the highest quality. For 69.00 you will get a run of the mill WWII era 91/30, nothing special. Consider finding an earlier 91/30 with hex reciever if you want a 91/30. As stated before the finn models are considered higher quality also. There are lots of forums dedicated to Mosins as well as other mil-surps. Surplusrifleforum.com is my favorite but also look at 7.62x54r.net and gunboards.com. If you are just looking for a shooter spend the 69.00 and get a 91/30. If you are wanting something that will appreciate in value educate yourself on those websites as there are lots of cool models and variations out there. Be careful though you wont stop at just one. Then comes the C&R license and before you know it another safe.
